Valentine

Happy Sunday All,

Valentine’s Day…

valentines-day-1182246_1280This year, Valentine’s day falls on the same day as the Chinese New Year, It’s the anniversary of the George Ferris’s 157th birthday, it’s also the day a famous massacre took place in 1929. In 1945, just after midnight the German city of Dresden was bombed and finally the saint after which the festival is named, ST. Valentine, was executed on this day some time around 270 AD according to historical records.

It’s a day when we express our affection with cards, excesses of chocolate, roses, wine and all manner of tokens.

Valentine’s day is a day of romance, declarations of love and gift giving

Love…

love-1153972_1280 What is it really?

For many of us, love (romantic love, that is); the affection the care; the companionship, the respect; the support, the shared laughter and the faithfulness that we want in our love relationship seem rather elusive.

As you have come to learn, I am a bit of a ruminator. I think deeply about things and as this day of romance approached I got to thinking…

Thoughts on Love & Romance

Don’t get me wrong I’m a great romantic. I luuurve the idea of us loving one another and I love nothing more than the ‘frisson’ and thrill of meeting someone new and getting to know them. The hope and the expectation that maybe this time we have found someone a person we can hope share our life and experiences with, someone we can laugh with and cuddle up with and ‘be ourselves’ with.

But as I contemplated Valentine’s day and the nature of ‘love.’ I realised that in my life and experience I have learnt that the ‘Valentine’ and Romance movie version of love will remain an elusive and distant dream until we recognise what love and loving really means…

5 benefits of learning to love yourself

red-hearts-1182249_1280

No. 1

We cannot give what we don’t yet have ourselves…

Yet so many of us have so little love for who we are, but at the same time we are desperate to have another love us

To truly find love and a love that lives up to our idea of romantic love, we first need to know how to love ourselves…

  • Loving yourself heals every problem you have in life
  • Loving yourself makes you happy
  • Loving yourself improves your health and well-being
  • Loving yourself generates positive energy and that positive energy creates positive experiences.

No. 2

footsteps-390516_1280I have learnt that loving yourself is the pathway to your PEACE & your HAPPINESSWhen you love yourself you feel pretty good most of the time and feeling good all the time means you’re pretty happy.

Even when you have challenges, if you love yourself you respect and honour your strengths, you understand that you can overcome because you know how amazing you’ve been and the wonderful qualities you possessed that helped you deal with your previous challenges.

No. 3

You are enthralled

person-723561_1280As you voyage deeper into self-discovery. You gain a deep-seated appreciation for the YOU that you are. You accept the different parts that make you YOU; The foibles and idiosyncrasies, the embarrassments and peculiarities. You celebrate all parts of you and find yourself walking taller, feeling more peaceful and smiling without having a reason to…

No.4

You let go

Of the need to control or define others. Having a deeper love of yourself makes you to realise that your only purpose is to do just that and that your happiness is YOUR responsibility. You therefore begin to accept that you cannot ‘save’ or create happiness in others, that’s THEIR job. Once we ‘get’ this we begin to let go trying controlling circumstances or the emotions of others and more importantly we let go of…buddha-709861_1280

No. 5

You learn to stop blaming yourself.

Yeah OK, we all have our quirks and habits, our fears and ‘weirdnesses,’ but once you learn to truly love yourself and I mean develop that complete acceptance for who you are in your core; develop the ability to forgive yourself, talk softly and lovingly to yourself as if you would a young child, then you understand that those less than perfect actions you are simply opportunities for you to ‘choose’ again, a lesson in the school of life. You understand that you too are no better or worse than anyone else and that it’s OK to falter or make a mistake, you’re simply learning how to create the ‘you’ you choose to be.

You see once you understand how to LOVE YOU…

Then you are filled up with it.

Full to the brim with it…

Overflowing…

water-984476_1280It is then, when you know how to love you, when you are so full, that you have more than enough to share and still be full, it is then that you know how to replenish any that you do share and you make it your mission to always replenish your reserves first, that you will you truly understand love’s nature.

In this space you will be able to truly honour and respect and love cherish another enough to share the best of YOU

So from today…

Make it your mission to truly learn how to understand, honour, accept and deeply appreciate all of yourself; without condition.

Learn to do this and you’ll know instinctively how to do so with the one you choose to share your life with and between you you’ll create magic!

Silent Saboteurs

Happy Sunday all

fears-701990_1280Today I’m going to comment on something that many of us experience, yet we are (consciously at least) unaware of it.

I’m talking about the fear of success

Who fears success? You holler. Well, you may be surprised to realise it, but many of us harbour unconscious Silent Saboteurs

They can manifest in the form of procrastination. You have a goal that you want to achieve or a level of comfort, stability, income that you know you are worth, yet you can’t seem to pick up the momentum you’d hoped with the actions you take to you reach your envisaged goal.

Why?

question-mark-460869_1280Sometimes we procrastinate not because we don’t want to take the necessary steps, (we’re often working like Trojans and can’t understand why we’re not making the headway we hope to), but become overwhelmed by the enormity of the task and are not sure where to start, or we are unaware (and this is the key to the challenge here) that on a subconscious level we feel undeserving and have some form of guilt or feeling of undeserving attached to receiving the abundance we so desperately want and know we deserve.

Ping-Pong

stamp-114438_150I’ll give you an example from my own recent experience: Through this experience I REALLY understood the importance to your psyche of owning your successes and celebrating your achievements.

It was a great surprise to suddenly find myself in a bidding war between two agencies Last Friday. As they batted the fee and the contract benefits backward and forwards, like game of ping-pong, I had moments of guilt and moments of panic.

yes-238374_150Both consultants were of course pressing for me to make an immediate decision and of course wanted me to decide in favour of THEIR client. In the end I had to tell them both to give me half an hour to have a ‘cuppa,’ breathe and really check myself internally so I decided that was ‘right for me,’ not one that was a reaction to MY own silent saboteurs, emotions or pressure.

During the process it became clear that one of my major silent saboteurs are feelings of ‘obligation’ ‘should do,’ ‘loyalty’ and ‘guilt.’

Let me explain:

I could choose to stay with the current organisation; in their favour were established relationships, familiarity etc. However:

  1. They had not retained my services until two days before the holidays, so I was unaware of my situation as I headed into the season
  2. When they did offer to continue with my services they offered to extend me by one month only, so come the end of Jan 2016, I could again find myself looking for another situation
  3. They offered to pay an increased fee only after my skills and talents were in danger of going elsewhere. After someone else saw my potential immediately and offered to pay what they felt my skill and abilities are worth.

Yet…

A New EndingMy silent saboteurs were kicking in and I felt ‘guilty’ at the idea of leaving because of the relationships I’d developed; I felt an obligation to ‘see it through,’ even though if I did so they could easily let me go and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to see it through anyway.

The new, brings with it feelings of exhilaration and excitement and I knew from experience that these are signs; my intuition was indicating that this is the door I should walk through for my personal development and expansion, so why the indecision?

Success means change

door-672999_1280Stepping up to the next level of success, however it manifests is something we’ve never before experienced and so it feels strange. We’ve all experienced that twinge of trepidation when we’ve had to deal with a new environment or situation, the doubt whether we are ‘up to the task’ do we have the skills, the intellect, the knowledge the confidence the style, the whatever…to make the grade and stay afloat in this new sea of experience?

Just keep swimming…

More often than not these fears are unfounded and we do more than rise to the occasion we may even find things are far easier at the ‘next level’ than we anticipated. We do more than float but swim deftly and easily. Before long it feels so familiar in this space we wonder why we ever had doubt in the first place.

The two faces of success

masks-833421_1280You see success has two faces: there’s the positive side, the side we focus on that keeps us ploughing on when we are in pursuit of the goal and are striving. We rarely see or think about the other side, which may have .

Yes there are potential negatives…

Fear of success is as I said and ‘UNCONSCIOUS’ saboteur and those fears are the ones that appear larger and more ominous because avoid evaluating them.

Anything we avoid, tends to grow stronger and more powerful. Anything you fear you tend to avoid (either consciously or subconsciously) and when we focus on avoiding we reinforce the avoidance behaviour…hence procrastination, indecision, stop and start patterning etc.

If you wish losing a significant amount of weight you may:

  • Subconsciously fear the potential criticism or jealousy from others you know who say they need to lose weight too…you may be ‘ejected from the club.’
  • What about the extra attention and praise you may receive? You may fear how to deal with it
  • What of the new clothes you will undoubtedly have to buy. If you situation is less than flush, this could be a challenging investment to have to make.

They may seem trivial, but these subconscious saboteurs can completely halt your achieving your vision, thought you are actively ‘doing’ on conscious level.

The incredible Shrinking Saboteur

One way and the way I was able to shrink and get rid of my subconscious saboteur was to face it. Anything we put a spotlight on or examine tends to shrink and we see the issue for what it truly is. More often than not it is less scary that we imagined and we are able to find the confidence to deal with the feelings, situation, status, abundance that have manifest for us.

Spotlight

hands-423794_1280Turning the spotlight on my feelings made me realise that I didn’t have to ‘DO’ or ‘Be’ any more than I was already. I realised, that I was being fought for because I had been the very best I could be, I had consistently performed with passion and love over a 10-year plus period. I understood that this was just reward for that and that if I was to achieve even more and feel comfortable with the level of success I envisioned for myself this was the next logical step. I needed to put this new overcoat on and get used to wearing it.

Resolutions

girl-843076_1280By acknowledging the hidden side to success, but more importantly (and this is where the focus should be) by counting and acknowledging the positives, the minute by minute, day by day, month by month successes I had already achieved I was able to shift my feelings of undeserving or guilt and so feel completely worthy of the abundance being offered to me.

This January… as we consider the year that has just passed and look towards our ambitions for the year ahead I urge you to look at your success. Own and celebrate, what you have achieved and how far you have come. You will surprise yourself I assure you.

By feeling joy and self-appreciation you consciously programme yourself to accept and step up to even more success to come.

Blissings, Joy and peace for 2016

Happy Sunday All

Fear & Intuition

face-636095_1280Today I had the biggest and most profound lesson of my whole time in Cyprus thus far. I’ve had the strongest intuitive feeling, since coming away that something would happen. It manifest as the fear I mentioned in my previous post. I seemed to spend much of my time feeling as thought I needed to look over my shoulder.

Since then I convinced myself I’d be more positive and to see this time as a gift. A sort of pilgrimage; a present I would receive from the universe or some form of lesson or learning I would experience whilst here. Little did I know that it would involve BINGO!

Open to the new

Today started far too early…2am to be precise!

But the day finished better than it started.

By the end of the day I had learned a lesson… a powerful and profound one.

mountains-691501_1280After my trip to the village yesterday and sweaty walk down the hillside… a lovely, albeit steep (and with the speed and nature of the driving here) oftentimes treacherous stroll in beautiful 23’ sunshine. I must have become rather over tired.

Once back at the apartment I contemplated my game of Bingo tomorrow as I washed clothes and laughed quietly to myself as I thought about how I would Never have considered such a thing at home, yet when we in different circumstances whether or not by choice, we often allow ourselves to become freer, and open to ‘the new.’

I dozed for what felt like a couple of hours in the late afternoon, which was still very hot… NINE HOURS LATER! I woke up at 2am wide awake. Far too darn early for this girl, but I’m felt very restless.

I potter for what seems like an age and then make myself go back to bed.

8am…the day rolls out

sunset-67900_1920This is more like it! A far more civilised time of the day to rise.

Meditation…shower & dressing…more pottering and some food shopping and by 11.04am I’m sitting outside the raw food shop.

Breakfast.

Hmmm… decisions. Will it be a smoothie today or a raw cake? I opt for cake.

chocolate-811794_1920Chocolate & orange…delicious and every morsel is good for every cell in your body. The only truly ‘guilt free indulgence.’ This will have to be a non-existent treat from now on as finances are getting more than a little tight to say the least!

money-1005477_1920In no way had I been extravagant, but I knew I was under resourced when I got on the plane and I suspect that was a another reason I was reluctant to come in the first place. At this point I have €50 to my name.

Who wants to scrimp when you’re on holiday?

So, with half my cake eaten and many conversations later I venture back home to rest up and be back outside the shop for another lift to the village with Kate and Pissouri Village BINGO!

Flow…

water-256195_1504pm and we ‘tootle’ up the steep chalky cliffs to Kate and Ryan’s lovely home (names changed to protect the innocent!)

Now remember I only had €50. I had to take a €20 note with me as Kate had told me bingo would cost €6 and there’d be a meal. Not bad I thought. I’d of course then have enough to give her some money for fuel as well.

I offer to pay her as we get to the clubhouse, ‘we’ll settle up at the end,’ she says. ‘Go with the flow,’ I say to myself, a mantra I had been silently repeating all day…

’Trust the angels.’

Earlier that afternoon, I had taken out my angel cards and done a reading just before getting ready to meet Kate: ‘Blessings,’ ‘Spiritual Growth,’ and for the third or fourth time this week I had drawn ‘Guardian Angel.’

angel-819644_1920So, I told myself to stay in trust, that the universe would support me and to give thanks After all, money or no, I was still in paradise.

I felt easier…

6 games of bingo were going to be played in total and I quickly got the hand of it…

Game one played…

Game two & game three played and the €20 for a line goes, then the €50 for a full house. There are only two games left.

I accept I’m not going to win.

I relax…

Game four: Fifteen numbers will be called. I’m off to a slow start. Nothing on my board Is coming up. It doesn’t matter, it’s about the taking part and with the other players all calling the numbers and the little ditty that goes with each of them…

legs-766046_1920”No. 11 –  legs eleven;

Two fat ladies – 88” etc… this is fun, plus I’m getting an education.

Then a roll of numbers come my way and my board is looking very healthy, but so too are those of a few others and at least three of us need only three more numbers to win.

The next number…I mark it off, then the next…awww, not one of mine, then the next, is one on my board. Just one more, one number, just one and then…

bingo-491228_1920“YEEEES!”

The winner takes it all

€50 won!

Oh my gosh!

It couldn’t have been a timelier nor a more welcome win.

fitness-332278_150I was so grateful and knew, just KNEW my angels had supported me in response to my belief in them and the gratitude I had shown for what I did have.

Once I’d relaxed and I allowed the flow, my gratitude had been the catapult that launched my desires into becoming manifest. Once I let go and was present, allowing the ‘flow,’ the energy kicked in and what I needed showed up, in perfect and divine timing.

Gratitude, gratefulness & Thank you

Once back in the apartment “Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you,” over and over was all I could think as I cried in gratitude and drifted to sleep that night.

That choice is yours too…

marseille-142394_1920All I know is that we are supported. Not just me, or those who we consider ‘special’ who we feel have a gift or stand out in some way, but each one of us.

All we need do is:

  • Ask
  • Believe &
  • Be grateful

Pissouri Pilgrimage 3 Pebbles & Sand

Happy Sunday all,

Pissouri – Cyprus

6th October 2015

18.38pm (local time)

Day three

purple-972434_1920 The sun is down now and there’s a purply-blue hue to the atmosphere. I’m on the terrace writing and feeling pretty at home I must say. Who knows, maybe this is a premonition; some dejá vue and in the future I will spend my life in the sun writing?

What a dream that would be?

Today started before the sun came up and before the ‘tring-a-ling’ of my mobile’s alarm.

I sat on the terrace for a while contemplating what to do with the day whilst in the distance the ‘whoooosh’ and ‘Schweeeee’ sounds of the swell of the sea and the waves sweeping as the tide came in, seemed particularly potent; a powerful draw, calling me to venture out.

Walking in Sunrise

stones-113791_1280So, as many still slept, including the sun, I ventured out to walk the length of the beach and explore a little.

Surprisingly, though it was only about 7.30am, one or two people were around and one woman had clearly been in the sea for some time already as she was walking back to her apartment wet and panting.

The walk was really quite invigorating. It’s hard work walking on shifting pebbles, great for the thighs and the tummy… so early morning exercise is ticked off the list.

I walked and walked on a journey that took me up a steep path that eventually led me above the sea and round the curve of the bay to give a wonderful panoramic view of the bay. A complete and perfect, chalky ‘C’ shape…kissed by a greyish blue swell.

Marvels and wonders

diaz-beach-940859_1920I marvelled at how lovely it all was and wondered at the sights this bay must have seen and the experiences it observed unchanging over the centuries.

Ancient Nubians fishing and swimming & building; the descent of Roman galleons invading the bay, that these very same cliffs must have taken in; the loss of many Ancient Greek sandals from lovers and friends; the remnants of shrapnel, devastation from two world wars; mementos, which now lay buried deep among the pebbles and the seaweed and the moss on the beach;

Sand & Pebbles

Pebbles & SandMy head hurt with the thought that there were millions, probably billions or trillions of pebbles and grains of sand on this one beach alone, and this was one beach on the island of Cyprus and Cyprus is one island, one tiny land mass that has many beaches, so how many grains of sand and how many pebbles are there across the planet?

Yet though

One pebble, one grain of sand on its own cannot make up a beach, every pebble and grain contributes to the creation of the beach.

All of it, I came to realise meant that we are but fleeting experiences for our planet. We are a mere nanosecond on the timeline of evolution so, is anything we experience REALLY so important that we need to feel stressed and unhappy about it?

When we realise we have all the time in the world, but no time at all in the experience of the world then surely we need to ‘get on with it,’ live every moment and be grateful for everything?

In the same way that we are inconsequential, we are too, like the pebble and the singular grain of sand, are a part of  everything; a part of the ‘beach.’

Without each ‘one’ next to another ‘one’ there can be no beach, no ‘whole’ and in that regard we are so darned fortunate to be here; a part of everything, yet separate and whole in our ‘Oneness.’

1.23am

I have just arrived back at the apartment.

Last in the restaurant; I cheekily stayed to use their WIFI and post Sunday and Monday’s blog posts. They didn’t seem to mind.

Then, after a dark and humid stroll…

rain-567512_1280A downpour!

I get home with 10 minutes to spare before…

Pissouri precipitation in extremis!

The perfect end to a beautiful day.

Belief

Happy Sunday All,

(Posted 6th October – but hey, better late than never eh?)

The Polar Express

Last night (3rd October) I watched the ‘Polar Express.’ I love that film, but you know when you watch something and get a different message every time you watch it. Well, last night I got a very different message, a message, which seemed to speak to me right where I am living in this moment.

baby-216876_1280You see, I am about to travel and for some reason, though I need the break I am experiencing some trepidation. I don’t know why, but I feel unprepared and nervous about the prospect of spending time in a foreign county alone. It’s not the aloneness you understand, I’m very used to that, but I’m not quite sure what It is.

The Polar Express is about belief.

A boy begins to doubt Christmas and the existence of Father Christmas and so ends up on a train to the North Pole and experience a series of challenges that test him until he ends up believing.

Believing

face-636095_1280 It’s about belief…believing in something even though it may be something you cannot see, or touch. At one point the boy is walking long the roof of the train and there’s a snowstorm. He can’t see clearly. There’s snow in his eyes and wind trying to blow him of course, but he’s searching for his friend and he knows that’s the direction she went in, so despite not being able to see anything, half blind and with no surety that he will find his friend he keeps going.

You probably do not know, but I made a significant change to my life just a year ago and I have created a new life and a new way of serving that seems like the right path for me. It is not without it challenges and at a time when thinks seems particularly ‘sticky,’ this lesson seemed very timely.

So, as I am wont to do, I had to share the insight:

What I took from that is that even though you may have decided on a path, a course of action a desire or a wish to keep going, keep believing, keep moving forward.

You may not be able to see the result, just blurry light in the distance and a vague belief that there is something out there for you then, you need to keep feeling your way. Keep your hands stretched out front, keep moving in the direction that feels right for you.

Forward motion

forest-249029_150Though the movement beneath you is rocky and unstable and you have no true idea where you’ll end up, keep pressing forward.

Fog

Despite being blinded by the fog and blown off course by the biting North wind, he kept moving forward. His belief held firm and he KNEW he would win through, though there was no evidence in front of him.

Just one step at a time.

Once he comes through and reaches his goal the train guard (played by Tom Hanks), says to the boy, ‘Sometimes the only things worth believing in are the things you can’t see.’

japan-808989_1280The goals we create for ourselves are often blanketed in fog, a shadowy ‘something out there,’ that we sense, but can’t quite make see clearly.

I guess that sense is the intuition, the inner ‘knower.’ Our little boy trusted his inner know and kept moving towards his goal, he kept believing in what he couldn’t see and was rewarded with reaching his goal

So albeit a brief post this week as I prepare to travel, I hope you get the message to keep going.

Your future or vision may be foggy now and perhaps you can’t articulate it as eloquently as you’d like to, but TRUST and keep moving in the direction of your dreams.

Being Tested

Happy Sunday everyone,

Over the last couple of weeks I was being tested.

Tested Big time!

I’m sure we’ve all known those times, times when you want to pursue a goal or particular direction, yet the energies seem to be conspiring to either scupper your efforts or keep you in your current space.

What to do in this situation?

My response is: DO NOTHING

Now when I say do nothing I don’t mean absolutely nothing, but I do mean don’t push against the energy.

stickman-310590_150You think you’re so sure?

You see, I’ve noticed in life that when we decide to be or do something different or change in some way the universe will challenge you. “Are you sure this is what you want?” she demands “Yes” you reply and again comes the ‘You sure you’re sure?” and sometimes, even when for a second time your conviction holds and you navigate another hurdle she’ll (the universe is always a ‘she’ to me) come in with another…

“I’m not convinced; prove it to me one more time!”

Boy! This universe is a hard woman to convince eh?

But these challenges are not easy choices to make. For example:

You may be thinking of changing your job. You’re not being as stimulated as you once were, you perhaps are not getting the recognition you feel you deserve or whatever the reason.

You decide to leave: YOU SURE?

You investigate and make connections and an opportunity presents itself. It’s with a relatively new company, more responsibility and challenge and a great match for your skills and values; a huge potential for growth, maybe even a stake in the company in the future.

fitness-332278_150Like a giddy Kipper!

You get fired up about it, you consider it carefully, you’re excited and full of joy a feeling you haven’t felt in some time and like a giddy Kipper you convince your partner that you’ll be so much happier, that it’s a better fit for you and that the future holds the potential for greater promise if you travel this path. It will just take some time to fully realise its potential.

You’re all set to leave: YOU SURE YOU’RE SURE?

And then your current boss invites you into their office and offers you the promotion you’ve been wanting for the last year and a half!

The one you’ve worked for and deserve and had lost hope of achieving. It’s much more rewarding financially than the vibrant new opportunity, but your boss is a challenge and there have been times when you didn’t agree with decisions they made nor how they made them.

It would mean staying within the confines of a large organisation and the structure, rather than the ‘freer’ environment and autonomy of the new opportunity.

You have to think. You agonise for days (your boss gives time), but you know you can’t take too long as they’ll think you’re not enthusiastic and a little ungrateful; after all, you’ve wanted this for many, months.

No…I’m sure, I’m sure

You decide that you’re still going for the opportunity that offers autonomy and expansion and then:

“BLAM!”

She says: I’M NOT CONVINCED PROVE IT TO ME ONE MORE TIME!

You find out you’re having baby…

Jeez!

Do you:

  1. Stay…Take the stability, comfort and security, the familiar structure that you know how to navigate, the ‘devil you know.’
  2. Take the risk on an unknown future, with potentially unsteady and unproven variables yet potentially the reward, lifestyle and peace of mind you’ve always dreamed of?

Do you stay true to the YOU you want to be or the you you already know how to be?

This is the space I have been in over the last few weeks and the space I’m sure many of you will find yourself in at some point in your life. This is what I have learnt.

Be still…

Be still and listen for the Divine Whispers

arm-wrestling-176645_150The push & the pull

In middle school we had a gruff, blustery teacher named Mr Hardy. He was a rugged Geordie and very ‘no-nonsense.’

As well as being my form tutor he ran the gymnastics team of which I was a member. Now, I think we all know the form and shape expected of a gymnast. I on the other, hand have always been more of a Serena Williams body type, boobs and all! In most conventional thinking not the most efficient shape for elevations, lifts, jumps and springs; yet I did very well, but you can imagine I often felt a bit like a sunflower in a garden full peonies as well as a deep-seated  insecurity among those sylph like others, who seemed to effortlessly glide through the air like a hot knife through butter.

One day he pulled me aside and asked me a question:

“Pauline,” he said “ have you ever tried pushing a pram on the sand?

“No sir” I answered.

“Well,” he responded, “you push and push and you just churn up more sand and the wheels get even more stuck, your progress is erratic and you get tired. Do you know what you should do?”

Of course I didn’t and told him so. He said…

“Turn around and pull…then you’ll glide over the surface with ease”

water-256195_150Flow

There is a point to this…I’m coming

You know I never forgot what he said.

I have remembered this throughout out my life and it has served me well.

To me he was telling me to stop trying so hard…to relax and let my muscles do what I was training them to. The ‘effort’ I was putting in was causing tension and that tension was creating stiffness and not the flow’ necessary for transformation.

The very effect I was trying so hard to create I was constraining. I needed to let go and turn around and ‘PULL’ I would find the movements would then unfold and create themselves effortlessly.

So, I’m in the middle of being tested and I remember the story. I remember and chose to stop endlessly ruminating on the topic, do the necessary but not make major decisions and be still…

whisper-408482_1280Whispers

As soon as I did the ‘whispers started’

  1. I was watching a film and heard “stay the course” twice…
  2. Then I heard the phrase “Be the true you” I knew these phrases were messages to me because you know when you get that churn or wrench in your stomach/solar plexus as if you’re being told to:

‘Pay attention?’

butterfly-108616_150Then there were butterflies; not unusual at this time of the year I know, yet I seemed to be followed by them and they were unusually tame around me. I even had one following me in the middle of London!

On looking them up their significance I see:

“Lighten up and stop taking everything so seriously. Get ready for a big change, one where and old habit, way of thinking, or lifestyle is going out, and a new beginning is emerging. It’s time to make the changes you’ve been considering. In spite of the challenges you’ll get through this transition, and as always know that ‘this too shall pass.’”

Well blow me down with a feather!

Clarity

It was clear to me that I indeed WAS being tested. Tested to know completely that what I was choosing was exactly what I REALLY WANTED, being tested and challenged to recognise when I’m being guided and supported and being tested to

`Trust my own inner guidance.’

zen-178992_150If we are to ‘stay the course’ when things get tough, we need to have complete conviction.

This conviction comes from pushing through resistance and knowing absolutely that the path we have chosen is the one we truly want. In order to know this we need to have fought for it, to face adversity to win it and so the universe will ‘test.’ You, but will show up to guide you and give you clues too.

‘In gratitude’ to Mr Hardy

At various stages in my life I have recalled `Mr Hardy’s voice telling me this tale. Mostly at times in my life when I was being tested, had decisions to make and I have automatically gotten into worry or anxiety mode. When I’ve been pushing myself for a finite and definite response and ‘stressing.’ Not knowing which direction to take.

Sometimes these dilemmas have been about my life path, or decisions about career and work, sometimes the decisions have been ones about love and partnerships.

When we remember Mr Hardy’s tale it reminds us to:

  1. Stop…turn around
  2. Be still… listen for the divine whispers
  3. Heed the messages we’re being given and only then should we move….  We’ll find then that we’ll glide over the sand.

2014-04-29 18.35.30Do you need an opportunity to be still and read the ‘whispers?’

Perhaps you’re restless and  you know there’s more

Perhaps like me you’re being tested

Perhaps it’s just a niggling feeling…

Perhaps you’ve decided things need to change but simply need support and guidance

On 22nd August take some time and ‘listen.’

I’ve created a space for just 28 people…

An intimate supportive and powerful workshop where you get to focus on YOU

A Space for you to become still and start ‘pulling’ YOUR  pram across the sand.

Self-love

Happy Sunday all,

I don’t know about you, but being able to really feel in love with who I am, to truly cultivate self-love has at times been one of my biggest challenges in life.

2014-07-19 15.00.45From our conversations about ourselves and our actions towards ourselves and others, and when I stop and listen to the language we use about ourselves and others its obvious too that many, many of us find that to love ourselves, to honour the unique gifts we have, to be able to look into the mirror and say out loud, yes, out loud, ‘I love you,’ the most challenging action to do.

As we navigate our way through our experience of life we sometimes and in some cases, often ignore the lessons we receive that are tapping us on the shoulder and reminding us that we are responsible for caring for ourselves first, before all else and that what we just did/said/thought was not an act of self-love.

‘to thine own self be true.’

In order to have successful relationships with others we need to first of all have a successful relationship with ourselves. To really know and understand who you are and what matters to you. However this process takes time. We uncover the pieces of the puzzle one by one and together they then form the complete puzzle and the picture starts to make sense.

Who am I?2014-07-17 18.10.17

Seemingly, this is a simple question, but it is one of the hardest to answer. The answer needs to be one which is true for who you are right here and now. Keep quizzing yourself with this question, take a week, take two. It’s not something you will answer overnight, but if you’re determined to improve your perception of yourself and really step into the space of self-love you need to be honest.

What are the positive wonderful qualities you bring to the world and to your relationships? make a list of at least ten but ideally twenty plus. You’d be surprised how many of my students are unable to create a list of even ten qualities they really like about themselves when I ask them to do this.

You cannot begin to imagine how deeply saddened I am every time I do this. But I do it because it plants a seed and creates a realisation within them… that ‘self-love’ is the path to learning how to love others.

How can I expect to find and accept the love of another if even I can’t allow myself the space within to love ME?

I have always held an intuitive belief. It’s one which my life experience has since taught me is true for all of us and that is that we all crave connection and ‘to be loved completely for who we are.’ That process starts with ourselves, so we need to look to at the qualities we feel we’d like to improve. However this list is restricted to two or three (for now). You see you need to be in a space where you can accept and love ALL OF YOU not just the bits you think others find pleasing or acceptable?

Can you look at those parts of you that are a ‘work in progress’ and love them too?

But, don’t be too hard on yourself, remember these qualities are often the ones that make us relatable and remind ourselves and others that we are human, we are mortal, we are fallible and that we are on a journey in the same way that they are. Most people find perfectionism really hard to connect with or relate to!

Recipe for Self-Love – (Five steps to steps to acceptance).

  1. flower-22656_150Be humble – Learn that you are not the ‘world’s expert on everything.’ Being humble not only makes it easier for others to relate to you, but you may actually learn something from listening. Setting yourself up as the ‘all-knowing’ oracle sets up a fear of failure and worry that you are responsible for everyone else’s woes. We are on our own path, but sharing the journey nevertheless. Being a ‘know-it-all.’ will not only make you tired, but distances you from relating to others ideas and points of view. Being humble shows you acknowledge that others’ stories, their journey, lessons  and experience are of value and in so doing you acknowledge and respect the importance of your own.
  2. blue-lotus-215460_150 Be honest – Being honest tells the world and yourself you are reliable. Your word is your bond. Being honest isn’t about denigrating or pulling down another in a brutal fashion. It’s about speaking and relating in an open but empathetic way, in a way that shows you are respecting the needs and intelligence of others. Honesty is an everyday practise its ordinary. It’s the act of not taking pens from the work stationery store cupboard ‘because they have loads of them and won’t miss one,’ It’s leaving the right change, it’s knowing even if others are not acting in integrity you are. This allows you to feel good inside and therefore makes it easier to find your way to self-love.margarite-74886_640
  3. Change the record  – Quieten the negative voice in your head by noticing when you tell yourself the self depreciating ‘stuff’ that keeps you locked in a prison of self-doubt. Let me ask you this, if a dear friend came to see you and asked you what you thought of them, what language would you use. Would you say ‘You’re too fat!’ ‘You talk too much!’ ‘You’re stupid?’ So why do you say it to yourself, Should you not be your own ‘best friend?’ notice what you say to yourself, catch yourself and then change the language into language you might use if you were talking to that friend. ‘I’m too fat –   ‘If you create a regular routine and do some light exercise, I’m sure I’ll see improvements in my fitness level.’ OR ‘I’m so stupid – If I re-read my notes then I’m more likely to understand the information presented.’
  4. heart-63974_150Treat yourself – How do you expect to graciously accept the compliments and gifts of your friends and loved ones if you don’t allow you to give to you? Allow yourself to enjoy life. Give yourself permission to simply experience joy and pleasure. Life isn’t about misery and suffering. We are here for a brief moment in time, so make the most of it. Treat yourself to that bubble bath, that concert or a day off on the sofa reading all day and no housework. Go out and let your hair down, eat the food you really like and make it a regular occurrence. How you treat yourself is how you will feel about yourself and ultimately how you allow others to treat you.beach-51956_150
  5. Give yourself a break! – Use the times when you were less than your best self as learning opportunities… Lessons. Experiences that you use to refine your choices and be the better person you are striving to be. There’s no use chastising yourself and making yourself feel worse. If you ‘drop the ball,’ occasionally. Decide if there’s a way to make amends, do so and then try to ‘do’ and ‘be’ better the next time.

Remember those that know better DO better!

Anais Nin once said:  “life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. That is a kind of death.”

Allow yourself to change and grow accept that you will change.

We are here on a journey and so loving yourself is a continuous process not an end point or destination.

Bliss-ings and much love,

Being You

Happy Bank Holiday Monday all,

Good morning again from a rather rainy Toronto & a cloudy London. Today I thought I’d consider the challenge of ‘Being you.’

There’s a quotation attributed to Coco Chanel:

‘Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself’

children-364625_150How do we obtain & maintain a sense of self when many of the messages we receive create and   persist in ‘reinforcing the notion that we simply not enough?’ Firstly, let me apologise for the fact that I have been out of range for the last couple of weeks and so unable to write to you all. As I began to write this it was Saturday afternoon and one of those rare moments when I’ve slowed down a bit. You know one of those dull afternoons when you feel listless and want to stay cosy inside. The TV was on for some rare ‘chilling’ time on the sofa with my sis.

In need of a fix

An advertisement comes on, nothing unusual there…but it was an ad for a dating site. The one that followed was for slimming aids, then Febreze, then a baldness cure and as I watched I detached slightly. A thought occurred to me: How can you ever see being you as ok when the overriding message is one of ‘Not enoughness?’ That to be seen, make a difference, achieve in ANY WAY we need to be fixed?

The deficiency paradigmmourning-360500_150

These messages sent to us from the plethora of images we meet daily, hourly both pictorial and written, is one of deficiency. We are perpetually bombarded with the idea that we need fixing, that we’re just not good enough and quite frankly it made me tired!

Too single, too fat, too dirty too bald, too old, not old enough, feet too ugly, not tanned, slim,  tall or rich enough…the list goes on and                                                     I’m sure you catch my drift.

Is it any wonder then that the lens through which feel able to see the world is rather foggy and a somewhat gloomy one?

I guess the strategy works?

ball-393834_150If we’re subdued into a state of perpetual fatigue, constantly using our energies to bat away thoughts of unworthiness, inadequacy and not enoughness, how can we hope to find the mental & physical energy required to strive, become educated, to love to sing, to laugh? To find the path to being you. Fully realised, authentic and content with who you are? I imagine many of you reading this will be feeling listless, lacking enthusiasm for you life and it’s not surprising as this message overload is constant. The best way to counter this is simple. TURN IT OFF!

Take the Challege

Never mind Ice-bucket challenges! I challenge each of you reading this to turn off the Tv, eshew newspapers & magazines and social media… give your mind & spirit a negativity holiday for a week and notice how you feel & how your thoughts change. Ok for you real info junkies try a day or two! Once you shut out the bombardment you may find yourself surprised by how satisfied and grateful you begin to feel. Once you tap into these feelings of gratitude & satisfaction you begin to generate more (much as you did with the feelings, of dissatisfaction). Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean ‘stuff’ won’t happen, but when it does, you’ll find your attitude to the ‘stuff’ shifting. Events will seem less disastrous and insurmountable. The satisfaction you now feel will extend itself to yourself and you’ll realise you’ve more than enough. You’re fine just as you are… right where you are.

Blessings

Being Present

Happy Sunday all and greetings from Toronto!

Today I’m sharing what happens when we focus on being present. Being present has alternatively been called mindfulness especially by some who perhaps feel meditation is perhaps ‘ too hippyish.’

As I didn’t take my laptop with me in holiday, the next-few posts will be somewhat reduced as I attempt to use my Kindle to write and post and I’m afraid there are less pretty pictures for you all but still the heartfelt, and I hope, powerful messages designed to help you step into your best version of yourself.

Out of Control

bank-340779_150This past week I have been out of control. That is to say my daily routine is being dictated by someone else, as my sister organises events for us to experience and takes the lead as we venture out.

Of course this makes complete sense and let me reassure you I’m having a ball and truly enjoying a well needed break from the norm; but I noticed that being ‘out of control,’ ‘out of my routine,’ and being led, means I am being more present.

Hypereal

My experiences are more vivid, almost hypereal as I am paying attention to every moment. Every step taken is new, unfamiliar and so needs concentration. Every turn, every new event or place to eat, every item in the shops, every new person I meet, the sound their voice, how they enunciate, it all takes focus and this focus means the peripherals, what happened before that moment or what may happen after it take extra energy I can’t afford and so I am totally ‘in the moment’ at all times.

Focused.

Being so present is making each experience all the more enjoyable as I take in all aspects of every one; as a result I am more grateful for the experience as I FULLY experience the beauty of each moment.

So, just for today.

Practise being present. Focus on really concentrating on every moment and experience the beauty and the gift ofumbrella-170962_150 the present moment.

Blessings & much love

Gratitude

Happy Sunday all,

Revelation

This post recalls a day, a few months ago, when I felt a profound feeling of gratitude I thought today, this Sunday, would be an appropriate time to share the events, thoughts and feelings from that day with you, in the hope that what I write here today supports you on the rest of your journey.

I’m sure you’ve experienced a time in your life when everything just seemed to fit. Everything was easy and you experienced a sense of peace.

It may have been some form of sport you were playing and every member of the team seemed are working in synch; the action played itself out in slow motion and from player to player there was a complete connectedness. Or perhaps you were writing or creating something and you suddenly found yourself in a rhythm, a hypnotic, almost meditative flow.

Flowwater-256195_150

It was boxing day, 26th December 2013 when even though I have read many texts and attended many seminars that explained the path to a fulfilled, happy life, I somehow suddenly ‘got it.’ The pieces of the jigsaw fell into place and I was lucky enough to understand when and how those principles had been at worked throughout my life.

Though we can learn about a concept or an idea and know a theory in principle, it is only when we ‘feel’ that principle or idea working in our life in some way, that the ‘click’ occurs and we are able to feel connected to that universal flow.

When you’re in the ‘flow’ you no longer feel as though you have several of the pieces of the jigsaw missing, that you’re not quite connecting.

person-110305_150All day I was overcome by two overwhelming feelings:

One was GRATITUDE and the other, well all I can describe it as, was JOY.

It was an overwhelming feeling of being happy, at peace and feeling so so lucky to have what I have.

For one day I wasn’t constantly contemplating how to create success, a new career, wealth, health etc., an ever-recurring series of thoughts, that nearly all of us are too pre-occupied with, left me and I felt a complete acceptance of where I was in that precise moment.

I began to focus solely on what I DID HAVE instead of what I felt was missing from my life.

It was an illuminating experience and one I felt I should share, as I’m convinced  it is the way to create not only a better mood, but to conjure up that condition of ‘being in the flow’ and attracting more of what we want in our lives.

Gracehoarfrost-66089_150

On that day, once I’d connected with that feeling, whatever had gone before in my life seemed redundant.

I was enveloped in what I can only describe as a shroud of thankfulness – Gratitude.

I guess I’d call it Grace.

I’ve never know what those people who are religious mean when they talk about a state of grace and I had assumed it was something that only those of us who have a faith and have a religious practise would experience, but not someone like me.

The biblical epic perceptionstained-glass-72960_150 (1)

Thanks to Hollywood and the vivid depictions of biblical events in which God/Universe speaks via a specially selected person who is invariably accompanied by dramatic weather as a backdrop. We imagine that when the divine or spirit or ‘grace,’ touches us, our experience will be just like that. Monumental. thunderbolts are followed by rolling thunder, overwhelming emotions will engulf us. We imagine too, that the heavens will open and strange and unusual events will occur.

I however, I think that spirit is much more intelligent than that.

The divine touches us in more subtle, yet profound ways… Evidence of the divine appears in events that are not loud and crashing, but soothing, subtle and gentle.

Despite the subtlety, the divine permeates your very core and infuses every cell of your being until you literally feel as though you’re glowing with gratitude, faith, hope or joy…whatever emotion it is that you’re experiencing in that moment, you simply feel it.

Inside & out.

Gratitudethank-22016_150

On the day I mentioned, I woke up reasonably early, completed a full Yoga workout for an hour or so and then meditated for what seemed like another full hour.

I drifted into a meditative state quite quickly and almost immediately I felt a wave, a rush of emotion sweep over me.

A huge swell of thankfulness.

This thankful feeling grew and grew. I began to feel so very happy to be in the space I found myself in.

I was happy for the state of health I was experiencing, blessed to have my children, my mother, my father, sister and friends, but this feeling of gratitude felt strange. Was this what if I grace was present?

I say strange because I realise I was feeling grateful not just for the positives I mentioned, but this feeling was also seeping into every experience in my life, even the horrific and uncomfortable ones.

Yes, I was feeling grateful for all the horrors too!

I wanted to come out of the reverie, as it felt alien, however I struggled and settled and then surrendered to it.

The longer I stayed bathed in the feeling the clearer things became.

It all counts…water-209901_150

I realised that EVERYTHING I had experienced in my life had led me to that precise moment, that precise time in my life and it was THAT MOMENT that I felt grateful for. So yes, of course, everything I’d experienced, even the horrors in my life had were appreciated and thanked for bringing me to the exact point, on that day.

For the most of that day, I was floating, light and in a playful mood.

I was content.

The most unusual thing though, was that everywhere I went and everything I did  seemed to throw up events or people who provided even more events and memories I could be grateful for, opportunities to whisper to myself and to the universe a huge ‘thank you.’

‘Thank you’ for who I was, where I was, whom I was with, how my life had manifest up to that point.

Importantly, I had a sense of surety that the abundant future I was trying to create was on its way to me.

It was a feeling like no other and convinced me that spirit and grace were walking with me. I gained clarity of thought that day and ideas I had previously had, became much clearer.flowers-72177_150

Gratitude is: the energy that creates our lives.

The petrol that fuels our abundance engine.

The more grateful we are for what we have and where we are, the more swiftly what we wish for comes to us. Then  we are given more and more and more opportunities to say ‘Thank you.’

If we are grateful we receive more abundance, more events, gifts and people, appear in our lives, that we feel grateful for…

So we feel compelled to say:

‘Thank you, for all I have, all I am and all I will be.’

The path to fulfilling your dreams is laid with cobblestones of gratitude.

So, my message today is propel yourself closer to your desires, your hopes and your dreams through the spirit of thankfulness.

BE GRATEFUL

Start today…go on…just say ‘Thank you.’thank-you-140227_640

When you feel more comfortable, speak out loud all the things you are thankful for, or if you’re shy of speaking out, for fear you’ll be thought of as mad, then write it all down.

You’ll find your life starting to run more smoothly, as these feelings of gratitude increase. You’ll become addicted because they feel so good, so good that you’ll want to stay bathed in them.

You’ll find you won’t be able to stop finding more and more reasons to be grateful.

The feelings that well up inside are so beautiful you’ll want to weep.

There are always opportunities for thankfulness opportunities to make a change, to see the best in a situation and learn the lesson it wants to share with you.

Remember the quote from the film ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.’

Everything will be all right in the end and if it’s not all right, then it’s not the end.’

Blessings and love
