Unity is the Key

Happy Sunday All

cropped-cropped-IMG_0348.jpgOne Family under the Sun

As you’ve come to know me through my writing here in this blog, you’ll have realised that I have a resolute faith in the infinite potential we have as human beings. You know I believe unity is the key to us achieving lives filled with service, support and love for one another and the creatures we live alongside.

You will have gathered that I believe we are powerful, light and deserve abundance and that this is achievable for all. You’ve come to understand that my conviction is firm in the knowledge that we are all deserving of this abundant life, but most of all, you will have learned that through my intuition and through the lessons I have learnt in life, that I have an absolute and unwavering belief that we are ONE human family.

Unity is the Keytrust-450352_1280

Yesterday I was privileged to attend an event which exemplified my long held beliefs.

This event was proudly hosted in my home town of Leeds, England. At this event the power and beauty of unity was perfectly demonstrated. Afrika Bambaataa, the ‘Godfather’ of Hip Hop graced my home town with his presence and as such, Leeds City Museum became a hub of love, acceptance, fun and peace for all.

The event was a powerful reminder that I am on the right path, that WE as a human family can come together for the betterment of us all and that ultimately ‘Love is all you need.’

I saw mothers, fathers, grandparents; aunties, uncles, children and grandchildren; melanin tinted hues of Ebony, Cocoa, Coffee, Toffee,Vanilla, White Chocolate and Cream; Solicitors, musicians, activists, teachers; Djs, Home-makers, B-Boys, B-Girls & Preachers; Photographers, writers, security guards & cleaners come together to pay homage. They came to reminisce, to sing; to laugh, to dance and show love and it was a beautiful, beautiful thing…

To witness this real-life demonstration, the living embodiment, that unity is the key to creating a society and a world that supports, loves & is of benefit to us all.

Old SkoolOld skool trainer

Through the unifying force that is music and in particular Hip Hop, we were schooled yesterday in how this musical genre in particular, brings unity hope, joy and change to individuals and communities.

Those of you in the know will be aware that the ‘old skool’ Hip Hop originated by the ‘Father,’ Kool Herc and the great ‘Godfather’ himself, who created the name ‘Hip Hop,’ Afrika Bamabaataa, saw their music as a force for unity and positive social change.

I remember in my younger days, just before babies, being shocked, moved and galvanised by the call to action in Public Enemy’s ‘Fight the Power,’ and relating to the feelings of oppression and fatalism expressed in ‘Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s’ The Message. Later on I was empowered by Queen Latifah’s U.N.I.T.Y and amused rightly or wrongly by the overt and cheeky ‘Salt N Pepa.’

Back in the day

I was reminded how much fun this thing called ‘Hip Hop’ is.

It reminded me and the likes of me who, if I’m honest skirted on the fringes of the movement, (in between having babies) why I no longer listen to it.

Today’s expression of Hip Hop, with it’s mysogyny, separatism, negativity, focus on money, violence ‘bling’ and ‘Gangsta’ attitude is so far removed from the original message the Hip Hop originals formulated ‘back in the day.’

The most deeply moving aspect of the day was the dedication to the movement and it’s core message of love and unity that these, now middle aged men and women were still passionately expressing, as well as being surrounded by cross-generational, cross-cultural and religious conversation and laughter. You couldn’t help but be drawn in by the love and acceptance so clearly felt in that auditorium.

Deeply movedSad-Face

We see the influence of Hip Hop everywhere these days and casually take it for granted. From TV advertisements for major retailers like Argos (check out this year’s Christmas advertisement) to the Evian Roller Babies campaign. This has the effect of diluting the message, so we lose the true essence of what the movement was about. Once again the media machine takes a form that was liberating, from the people and of the people to absorb it, transform it and spew it out into a message of commercialism.

A media opiate numbing us to the fact that our freedoms are being eroded and our lives even further constricted.

However, yesterday was an oasis of hope that those of us who believe we are more alike than different, that love unifies; it showed us we are not alone. Showed us that there are like-minded individuals using whatever medium is best suited to their expression of love out there, doing their ‘thang.’ Hip Hop is just one of those forms of expression, seek out the ones that best suit you and keep the message alive.

I was deeply moved by a video by and organisation called ‘Hip Hop4Hope’ who are enriching the lives of poor children in Manilla in the Philippines through the medium of Hip Hop and it’s message of Love and Unity. Take a look and support them and whomever you feel best express truth and love.

Working together

Let’s remind ourselves that we are here to love and support one another.

To work together for the furtherance of peace, love and unity.

I have to say a massive ‘Thank you.’ to Afrika Bambaataa for being the example and tireless advocate of these sentiments for over 40 years; To Zulu ‘King’ Monk for being the driver and organiser of the event, to Emma Walker for her tireless determination to see the project come to fruition and her indomitable spirit and a massive thank you to The Universal Zulu Nation UK and all those who did a wonderful job giving this ‘old gal’ a well needed shot in the arm of community loving, for reminding me just what ‘FUN’ is and re-affirming that whatever medium you choose, whoever you are or wherever you are all we need to remember is that

Unity is the Key!

Peace…

Much love and blessings

Self-love

Happy Sunday all,

I don’t know about you, but being able to really feel in love with who I am, to truly cultivate self-love has at times been one of my biggest challenges in life.

2014-07-19 15.00.45From our conversations about ourselves and our actions towards ourselves and others, and when I stop and listen to the language we use about ourselves and others its obvious too that many, many of us find that to love ourselves, to honour the unique gifts we have, to be able to look into the mirror and say out loud, yes, out loud, ‘I love you,’ the most challenging action to do.

As we navigate our way through our experience of life we sometimes and in some cases, often ignore the lessons we receive that are tapping us on the shoulder and reminding us that we are responsible for caring for ourselves first, before all else and that what we just did/said/thought was not an act of self-love.

‘to thine own self be true.’

In order to have successful relationships with others we need to first of all have a successful relationship with ourselves. To really know and understand who you are and what matters to you. However this process takes time. We uncover the pieces of the puzzle one by one and together they then form the complete puzzle and the picture starts to make sense.

Who am I?2014-07-17 18.10.17

Seemingly, this is a simple question, but it is one of the hardest to answer. The answer needs to be one which is true for who you are right here and now. Keep quizzing yourself with this question, take a week, take two. It’s not something you will answer overnight, but if you’re determined to improve your perception of yourself and really step into the space of self-love you need to be honest.

What are the positive wonderful qualities you bring to the world and to your relationships? make a list of at least ten but ideally twenty plus. You’d be surprised how many of my students are unable to create a list of even ten qualities they really like about themselves when I ask them to do this.

You cannot begin to imagine how deeply saddened I am every time I do this. But I do it because it plants a seed and creates a realisation within them… that ‘self-love’ is the path to learning how to love others.

How can I expect to find and accept the love of another if even I can’t allow myself the space within to love ME?

I have always held an intuitive belief. It’s one which my life experience has since taught me is true for all of us and that is that we all crave connection and ‘to be loved completely for who we are.’ That process starts with ourselves, so we need to look to at the qualities we feel we’d like to improve. However this list is restricted to two or three (for now). You see you need to be in a space where you can accept and love ALL OF YOU not just the bits you think others find pleasing or acceptable?

Can you look at those parts of you that are a ‘work in progress’ and love them too?

But, don’t be too hard on yourself, remember these qualities are often the ones that make us relatable and remind ourselves and others that we are human, we are mortal, we are fallible and that we are on a journey in the same way that they are. Most people find perfectionism really hard to connect with or relate to!

Recipe for Self-Love – (Five steps to steps to acceptance).

  1. flower-22656_150Be humble – Learn that you are not the ‘world’s expert on everything.’ Being humble not only makes it easier for others to relate to you, but you may actually learn something from listening. Setting yourself up as the ‘all-knowing’ oracle sets up a fear of failure and worry that you are responsible for everyone else’s woes. We are on our own path, but sharing the journey nevertheless. Being a ‘know-it-all.’ will not only make you tired, but distances you from relating to others ideas and points of view. Being humble shows you acknowledge that others’ stories, their journey, lessons  and experience are of value and in so doing you acknowledge and respect the importance of your own.
  2. blue-lotus-215460_150 Be honest – Being honest tells the world and yourself you are reliable. Your word is your bond. Being honest isn’t about denigrating or pulling down another in a brutal fashion. It’s about speaking and relating in an open but empathetic way, in a way that shows you are respecting the needs and intelligence of others. Honesty is an everyday practise its ordinary. It’s the act of not taking pens from the work stationery store cupboard ‘because they have loads of them and won’t miss one,’ It’s leaving the right change, it’s knowing even if others are not acting in integrity you are. This allows you to feel good inside and therefore makes it easier to find your way to self-love.margarite-74886_640
  3. Change the record  – Quieten the negative voice in your head by noticing when you tell yourself the self depreciating ‘stuff’ that keeps you locked in a prison of self-doubt. Let me ask you this, if a dear friend came to see you and asked you what you thought of them, what language would you use. Would you say ‘You’re too fat!’ ‘You talk too much!’ ‘You’re stupid?’ So why do you say it to yourself, Should you not be your own ‘best friend?’ notice what you say to yourself, catch yourself and then change the language into language you might use if you were talking to that friend. ‘I’m too fat –   ‘If you create a regular routine and do some light exercise, I’m sure I’ll see improvements in my fitness level.’ OR ‘I’m so stupid – If I re-read my notes then I’m more likely to understand the information presented.’
  4. heart-63974_150Treat yourself – How do you expect to graciously accept the compliments and gifts of your friends and loved ones if you don’t allow you to give to you? Allow yourself to enjoy life. Give yourself permission to simply experience joy and pleasure. Life isn’t about misery and suffering. We are here for a brief moment in time, so make the most of it. Treat yourself to that bubble bath, that concert or a day off on the sofa reading all day and no housework. Go out and let your hair down, eat the food you really like and make it a regular occurrence. How you treat yourself is how you will feel about yourself and ultimately how you allow others to treat you.beach-51956_150
  5. Give yourself a break! – Use the times when you were less than your best self as learning opportunities… Lessons. Experiences that you use to refine your choices and be the better person you are striving to be. There’s no use chastising yourself and making yourself feel worse. If you ‘drop the ball,’ occasionally. Decide if there’s a way to make amends, do so and then try to ‘do’ and ‘be’ better the next time.

Remember those that know better DO better!

Anais Nin once said:  “life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. That is a kind of death.”

Allow yourself to change and grow accept that you will change.

We are here on a journey and so loving yourself is a continuous process not an end point or destination.

Bliss-ings and much love,

Insightful Angel

Purpose

Happy Sunday to you all,

Feeling Stuck?

2014-09-09 09.50.29

Are you feeling stuck?

Unsure of where you’re going or how to move forward, but sure in the knowledge that you can’t go back?

Are you caught in limbo? You know there is more, but can’t seem to grasp what it is you’re here for.

Are you dissatisfied with what you’re doing, how you’re living but have no idea what it is you want or how to change it You just know this isn’t right…there’s something?

Why am I here?

2014-09-08 11.48.35Today I’ve been musing over the subject of my purpose.

You have too haven’t you? Had that nagging voice say to you

“Surely there’s more to life than this… What the hell are you doing? Where’s your life going?”

If there’s one question we have all asked ourselves, at some point in our lives, it’s the question: ‘WHY AM I HERE?’

When we are unable to answer this, life can seem pointless. We lack direction, a sense of certainty and feel rootless and insecure. Without a purpose in life we drift like flotsam and jetsam and before long find ourselves participating in behaviours that do not serve our highest good to feel something… Anything!

I have long-held the personal belief that the proliferation of drug use, more and more extreme sexual encounters and gratification, overindulgence in food, the overuse and overstimulation of the senses via technology is and attempt to connect with the divine.  To have something make us feel complete, connected to ourselves and to something greater.

To feel at peace and that we matter. To truly know ourselves and our divine purpose.

i-105490_150Not for the likes of me!

The first thing you need to know is that each one of us HAS a purpose. A purpose is not reserved for the privileged few, for special people or the high-profile athletes, the movies stars and the wealthy entrepreneurs. YOU are here to discover this and live your AUTHENTIC life regardless of your start, upbringing, education or social status.

Though you do need to place focus on the material world in some way, after all this is the space we live in, but you need to get this.  Experiences in my life have taught me that this world is the training ground. The place where our soul is trained  and where it comes to do its work. The work of self-discovery and self-realisation, self-mastery.

What I have learnt from my time  here and through life’s trials, is that our soul’s lessons are designed to test us. As we break through each of our tests we become stronger, our belief in ourself and faith in our innate gifts grow more convincing and we begin to walk with surer steps in the direction of our dreams and our life’s purpose.

Deep down inside you know…

If you ignore the message of your soul it will continue to remind you.

I’ll give you an example from my experience:

As a child all I ever did was talk and sing. I was inquisitive, a dreamer, I loved people and would happily chatter away asking questions, being curious.

All I ever dreamt of was being another Judy Garland or Lena Horne (I loved the old movies full of glamour), but you get the picture. I saw myself on the Musical Theatre stage dancing like Cyd Charisse (I know…I’ve given the game away re my age, but hey, it can take being on the planet this long to finally ‘get it.’)

Anyway, as I was saying, all I did was sing and dream.sand-332500_150

Our path to our purpose is often the rockiest and most difficult to walk along. If you are to be an artist in some way you may find yourself born into  family of Philistines. If you are musical or sporting you may find yourself unsupported or your efforts trivialised, If your purpose is to share love with the world then you may find you have a start in life that is acutely devoid of love and safety.

This is so you to truly understand what it is and make your sharing all that more powerful because you DO understand what it is.

I realise now that is the universe’s way of ‘sharpening you up.’ making you strong and focused and determined, providing you with the ‘grit’ required to share the very best expression of your gift. Shaping you, so that when the time comes, nothing will shake you and you will ‘express.’ what you came here for in its fullest glory and power.

hand-307728_150And so I was constantly told to ‘shut up,’ as I talked too much. I was told that I couldn’t sing and reminded through our lack of means that that kind of a world was a world for ‘other’ people. People like us got jobs and hoped for a lifetime of security, to become ‘middle class’ rise out of the poverty and ‘working class ‘status we had in life.

And slowly, through the criticisms, taunts and ridicule of significant carers, teachers, careers advisers, who all knew more than I did, better than I did and who’s judgment and wisdom couldn’t be questioned, through them my innate knowledge of who I am and why I’m here was denied and ultimately I suppressed it.

Post-it notes and reminders

Despite my soul having an instinctive knowledge of its purpose, which was to use my voice to uplift the world. I learnt to be quiet.

Most people who know me would say ‘You quiet!’ I still talked, I was actually overly verbose, but it was empty talk. Acceptable talk. The deep-seated issues I wanted to discuss I couldn’t and didn’t, the dreams I had I swallowed and pushed down. As a result. Every year I suffered with Tonsillitis or ‘Strep throat.’ I was resisting my purpose and my soul was making me ill to wake me up to that fact.

Every year a post-it note: ‘This is not who you are meant to be!postit-169631_1280

Those of you in the know, will have guessed what it took me to my mid-thirties to begin to get the message. I suffered from tonsillitis because my communication centre was blocked. It felt awful, because for my soul, not being who I was supposed to be and doing what I was supposed to do, not fulfilling my purpose here was awful!

Our feelings are our barometer. You KNOW when something’s not right for you and your authentic purpose here. When you tell that ‘little’ lie and you get that brief tweak of conscience, when you take a bigger share, when you say something mean. Or perhaps you’re the person who’s on the receiving end. You’re allowing another to persecute or bully you; to control you life and your actions, to criticise or chastise you and it hurts.

Those pangs and twinges of guilt or shame, those feelings of hurt or upset are all

‘Post-it’ notes from your soul

and they’re shouting at you to make a change because whatever you’re doing or however you’re living or working are damaging you irrevocably.

So if you’re feeling stuck…feeling dissatisfied be thankful. Thankful because your soul is nudging you. Urging you to take a step closer to your purpose. When you do that dissatisfaction will disappear and the feeling of contentment and worth you get will be worth all the frustration, all the anguish and all the soul-searching.

Next week I will show you how my experience taught me to step into my purpose and how my soul never gave up on me. Yours isn’t either…so start listening.

Until next week.

Blessings & Much Love

Love & Fear

Happy Sunday everyone,

Today’s post will start in a somewhat creative mode. I was flicking through one of my many journals – (I am an occasional and inconsistent journal writer) and I came upon this poem or song I guess you’d call it. I named it ‘BREATHE’ball-393834_150

BREATHE

1

What happens when there’s no plan ‘B?’ When life lands a punch, so strong you can’t breathe?

What happens when you’re naked and alone, too scared to stand still, but afraid to walk on?

CHORUS/REFRAIN

When the pieces of the jigsaw fail to fit, when we fail to trust, force the edges in. In that very moment, ego’s fire, kills the Alchemist within.

2

Hold tight to yourself, breathe, don’t let yourself go, trust your life’s right, (just) let your spirit flow

The clouds weep in blue and the Earth’s wind blows cold. I pray SO hard to take my place, feeling tired, feeling old

CHORUS

When the pieces of the jigsaw fail to fit, when we fail to trust, force the edges in. In that very moment, ego’s fire, kills the Alchemist within.

The song appears between entries and notes dated 2002 and 2003 and what struck me about it was that I seemed to have encapsulated a couple of the main things that prevent us as spirit beings from identifying and achieving contentment, standing in our power and enacting our true purpose in this life. IMG_0412Namely FEAR and MISTRUST.

Osho says:

‘Fear is nothing but the absence of love. Do something with love, forget about fear. If you love well, fear disappears.’

Today I’m going to talk a bit about LOVE & FEAR.

sad-72216_150The debilitating result of fear

I have spent much of my life in fear. As a child I quickly learnt to fear my own power and magnificence. All my singing, speaking, opinions, laughter, successes inquisitiveness and loving actions seemed to be criticised. As a result, I spent much of my time feeling ‘wrong’ or ‘too much.’ I’m sure many of you have similar memories of childhood?

As such I learnt very early on to make myself small, to shrink and not upset or embarrass others or myself by being too excited or free. This then became a lifelong practise, perhaps this is the case for you too? Until I found myself, as the song says, unable to ‘breathe.’

Through this lifelong practise of rejecting our joy we become insecure and unsure and so in adulthood we are fearful. We no longer have a clear of what is our authentic self and so conform to what society says we should do/be/say.

Crippled, limping and alone

When we’re in fear our intuitive senses become blocked. When we are blocked it’s as if we are crippled in some way. Our intuition is overtaken by our ego, the voice that is in constant need for external approval, the voice that has complete belief in the world of the material, the world we’re taught is the one that really matters.

beggars-62851_150We’re still walking, you understand, but our gait isn’t straight nor is it sure-footed and every so often we go over on our ankle and the pain is excruciating!

In this world there is fear.

Fear is the absence of love. The absence of love creates Division: ‘Otherness,’  Division and ‘Otherness’ lead to Self-Protection, Self-Protection shuts us off (from ourselves, from others and the world) Shutting out means you’re alone…

Alone = Loneliness – Isolation – Disconnection

A state of feeling no contact with existence.thinking-236770_150

We’re crippled…limping, disconnected, discontented and alone!

The search for love

africa-17344_150Our intuition is the way God/Higher Power/Source/Allah/Jah/Yahweh/Universe speaks to and guides us. You access your intuition by allowing yourself to love.

For most of us to live purposefully we adopt a belief system of some kind, a connection to an external source to anchor us as we navigate through life and find our purpose, for we ALL have a purpose.

What we are really doing is looking for love and rightly so. It is in love that fear is driven out. If you’ve ever been in love, or if you have children, you know that in love, when you give it unconditionally and not in the form of some contract, you do not feel fear.

Love: Then you become fearless!

When you are fearless you neither create fear in others nor allow it to be created in you. You understand that love is of itself beneficial, so there is no need for conditions or contracts so you have no need for a return.

demon-201439_150Just by loving you grow in fearlessness and joy and so come to love just for the joy of it!

In loving you are more open to and more likely to hear the voice of whichever external power you subscribe to and in the listening you come to understand your purpose.

Why am I here?

love-229977_150It is only when we are fulfilling this purpose that we feel peace, feel fulfilled and to feel complete love and acceptance of ourselves and of others.

For many of us the search for that purpose and peace is elusive and we frantically  scrabble around for the answers to our existence; flip-flopping from one job to the next, adrenaline fuelled activities, drugs, alcohol, one relationship to the next vainly seeking, becoming despondent and wondering what the meaning of all this is anyway?

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Have you ever done something, created something, helped someone, come up with an idea for something, answered a question you didn’t think you knew the answer to, overcome a fear, large or small and felt a profound feeling of just ‘completeness.’ A feeling that ‘THIS IS WHO I AM.’ as sense of acceptance and belonging.

As if the sun was shining just on YOU in that moment and  that you can do or be ANYTHING? It’s in those moments, that we are given the clues…the breadcrumbs in the forest that will lead us to our purpose in life.

person-110305_150What we are meant to do is ‘FOLLOW THE FEELING!’

To create and seek out more situations and opportunities that re-create that feeling until it increases and increases and we are completely enveloped in ‘I AM.’

Increases and increases until we are FEARLESS and stand firmly, magnificently in the centre of the true essence of our being.

However, I’m sure you, like me will recognise what happens then. We can become afraid.

This feels ‘TOO’ good, we feel too powerful, too talented, too special and HOW DARE WE?

This is sacrilege.

Isn’t it?

lady-36446_150Who are we to feel god-like? and so we shrink… We go back to the familiar feelings of fear and mistrust. We’re safe with them. With them we don’t stand out, we don’t rock the boat. With them we are acceptable.

If I can get across ONE thing to you, beautiful readers today, it’s that we are here to be MAGNIFICENT. That every moment of everyday should feel awesome.

We are meant to live ‘Fearlessly’

Take it to heart, act on it.

Love: Yourself & others…

Love: Openly & unconditionally…

Follow those positive feelings to your BLISS and be in love with you…

IN LOVE WITH YOUR LIFE!

Blessings!

No Regrets! -Living your best life

IMG_0182No Regrets! – Living your best life

Happy Sunday everyone, For the next five weeks I’ll be examining the 5 biggest regrets people make on their deathbed.

The big five

five-146657_150

These five regrets are namely:

  1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not one others EXPECTED of me.
  2. I wish I hadn’t worked SO hard
  3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends
  5. I wish I’d been happier

Oh my!…How distressing

Today I will examine number one which is the regret of not having the courage to live a life true to yourself

The giftgift-147780_150

The good news is, the palliative care nurse that shared this information has given us a magnificent gift. How amazing to know NOW, in THIS VERY MOMENT how to avoid the potential feelings of regret as our souls transition. How amazing it is to have been given the OPPORTUNITY to change the course of our lives and know that we are ready to leave this world happy and fulfilled having:

  • Given of our best,
  • Been our best selves
  • Served humanity and as a result
  • Received the best that life has to offer.

Today’s the daysunrise-274257_150

If we heed the warning TODAY, and I mean TODAY! Let’s not procrastinate any longer, the result will be that ALL  who take up the challenge will live lives that are abundant, lives in which you feel completely realised as whole and complete. You will step into your greatness.

You will finally enjoy living a fulfilled life, one which is joyous, balanced and fearless; a Life which on reflection will make you to shout a resounding ‘NO REGRETS.’

You will have lived, A Life true to yourself

attractive-19161_640

But, what exactly is that?

Many of us spend our whole life, struggling to find who we are, what it is we want and name what that is. Many of us, reach well in to middle age and still don’t know ‘What it is we want to do and be when we grow up.’

Or else ~

Like me and you may resonate with this one: We knew, deep, deep down, many eons ago, perhaps as far back as 2 or 3 years of age or 6 or 7, exactly what we wanted to do, who we wanted to be…but when we put it out there we had our dreams ridiculed, and laughed at or else scolded  for even daring to think such nonsense.

Whatever the reaction was, as we grew older, as we met the world at large and more messages of ‘just do; the right thing,’ be ‘like everyone else,’ average,  grey.

The message that told us to ‘fit in.’

‘Not shine too brightly,

‘Not show up the inadequacies of others by being as shiny as our own bright star was capable.

Our dreams shrank and so did we…

eyes-34781_150Dream stealers and energy vampires

Sound familiar?

“Well, son there’s not much call for cowboys these days…”

“Magic doesn’t pay that well…”

“How can you be successful as a baker? and it’s really warm with all those ovens…”

Or Maybe, like me…you were simply laughed at…

Or received an angry response: ‘Who do you think you are?’

Many of us received the following responses:

“You’re good at English/Maths/Science, why not become a Teacher/Accountant/Doctor. It’s a good profession and you’ll have a good income and a better life than we had.”

“You need to go to work…we cant afford to send you to Drama/Circus/Dance school.”

I have no doubt they discouraged us because they had the best of intentions, however, they are invariably the phrases passed down from Aunts, Uncles, Elder sisters & brothers. Many of our care givers repeat these warnings because of their own fear or simply for something to say.

Whatever the message was, we believed it.

believe-197091_150

We echoed it and increased it’s power, OR we stuffed it down into the already bulging sack of ‘rubbish’ which holds similar messages from other caregivers, mentors, teachers and significant adults who influenced our formative years and convinced ourselves we didn’t deserve to EVER take that out and look at it again!

We accepted, what they said was true and that ‘LIFE’S JUST NOT LIKE THAT!’ instead we resigned ourselves to being ‘sensible’ and ‘realistic.’

Once the three-year-old you met resistance from a significant adult it’s game over! It’s far too great a challenge to expect a 3, 4, 5 year-old to stand firm, take the bit between their teeth and insist that they are able to assert their right to be their authentic self.

The Decision

So, we made a decision…an unconscious one.

right-238369_150

We decided that the feeling of perfection, of being so expanded and happy, so exhilarated, the feeling that you CAN do anything; the feeling that

Performing magic,

Being on horseback,

Creating yummy smelling rolls,

Painting

Dancing,

Acting the clown

OR

Performing created within you, was a fleeting, transitory emotion that we could only expect to experience on a couple of occasions in a lifetime!circus-160165_150

We decided, unconsciously you understand, that life was more passive & unimaginative, that no-one feels like that ALL the time, that you were not special enough to feel that way all the time.

After all no-one we know does these things,

To feel happy, content and fulfilled … is the exception. Isn’t it?

BUT

Deep down…

In the depths of your soul, you know don’t you?

You know you’ve been sold a massive lie.

That somehow…you betrayed yourself.

But…

You’re an adult now. The biggest thing stopping you, is not the people around you it is…

You guessed it!

What we fail to recognise is that they’re not RIGHT they’re just AFRAID;

You’re AFRAID.

Afraid to follow your passion.

Afraid you’ll fail,

Afraid you’ll look silly,

Afraid of what others might say,

Afraid you’ll be unable to survive,

Afraid to be different,

Afraid, Afraid, Afraid!

My hope is that today, this blog will get you thinking and I will help you realise one thing.

You have a choice…

Right here, NOW.

You have the right, the option, to choose differently, to not be the next person who at the point of leaving this world says:

motorcycle-293571_150‘I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself.’

So if you give yourself one gift this year, let it be the gift of YOURSELF to YOURSELF…

Revisit your passions:

What were the things you’ve experienced, achieved, completed that gave you that feeling of expansion, a feeling that everything is/was perfect, of exhilaration.

A simple feeling of joy?

Is there room to re-introduce it/them into your life?

As you’ve evolved, have you discovered a new passion and how can you make that your life’s work?

success-259710_150‘Success’ only comes before ‘work’ in the dictionary

My experience of changing my life, living with my joy every day and being a more successful ‘me,’ has taught me that,

Yes it will be work,

Yes there will be challenges,

But guess what?

When you step into your passion you connect with your greatness EVERY SINGLE DAY.

You’re in joy EVERY SINGLE DAY,

you look forward to the work you do.

You WANT to do it, not HAVE to do it.

Aren’t we all familiar with the phrase ‘I have to go to work?’

Even your challenges become joyous because you know that like a diamond, these challenges are simply polishing you up.

Polishing you up, so you become your, shining, brilliant, best self; sparkling on every facet and reflecting the glory of the universe back to yourself and to us all.

The saddest and most painful words ever uttered are:

“IF ONLY…”

Blessings and Love
